Ball Hockey congratulates the following members of the Vancouver Women's
Ball Hockey League on being selected to the National Women's Team. We are
honored to have them represent BC on such a prestigious event.
The selection process is never easy,
especially for those in the position to either select or release players
from any sport. The process was equally up to the task of "almost
impossible" when the selection came down to who would be chosen for the
National Women's Ball Hockey Team. Talent continues to grow and it not
only extends to the Ice sports. Players excel at all levels as well as all
sports and never is it more dominate than Women's Ball Hockey.
The governing body of Women's Ball Hockey in
the lower mainland of BC is known simply as the Vancouver Women's Ball
Hockey League and plays during the summer months on Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday's at various arena's. Games start at either 7 or 7:30 pm depending
on the location and naturally availability of floor time, something which
the lower mainland is short of. Area's such as Edmonton are fortunate to
have use of a dry floor year round, thus allowing the program to expand
and produce more talent.
However, showing no shortage of talent in the
lower mainland is the Women's program which has produced National
Championship teams over the past years. Much credit must be given to those
who continue to stay involved and promote the program. Years back it was
Harry and Val Dion who contributed not only time, but dedication to the
league allowing it to prosper. With both on the retirement end of ball
hockey, others have picked up the slack and under the leadership of Linda
Wood it continues to grow.
Players attend tryout camps and some are
selected at National Championship events, just due to logistics, not to
mention the dollar it would cost to attend on of these camps.
The Vancouver Women's League is pleased to
have the following individuals selected to the National Women's Team and
all are to be commended.
The following is a complete list of players as
well as locations of where the players are based out of.
After extensively
scouting players from across the country, it is with great pride that we
present you the 2007 Women's Team Canada.
