Team_Canada_Locker_RoomTORONTO – September 28, 2010 – On behalf of the Canadian Ball Hockey Association and its Minor Council we are proud to announce the 2010 Junior U-20 Team Canada roster for the 6th World Junior Championships to be held in Villach, Austria, in June 2010

Twenty-four players, 12 of which are returning from the 2008 U-18 World Championship team, have been selected from across the country to defend Canada’s 2008 title of World Champions captured at home in St. John’s

The Junior Team Canada staff was very busy in 2009 scouting various events held across Canada.  Thorough scouting of the Ontario Provincial Championships (Penetanguishene, Ontario), Western Challenge Cup (Calgary, Alberta), Eastern Regionals (Saint John, New Brunwsick) and Men’s “A” Nationals (Winnipeg, Manitoba) as well as the Ontario Premier Ball Hockey League.

General Manager, Mauro Cugini, was pleased with the composition of the club. “For us there are no question marks whatsoever.  We are just anxious to get back on the floor next summer and begin working towards the goal of bringing another championship back to Canada”.   “We are aware no country has ever repeated winning at this event, but this group of players has played in a lot of big games and that is going to help us.”

Cugini continued, “as much as this is a dream come true for these players, it's also a business trip.” Two years ago Canada captured gold with a team built to win on North American soil and next year brings many different challenges, but this will be a life experience that no one will ever forget and a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Head Coach, Doug Shaw stated, “with the twelve returning U-18 players who won gold on European soil, we will be able to mold together quickly and produce a strong competitive team that will be relentless in their quest for gold.”

Jim Armstrong, Assistant Coach continued, “being with the U-20 team back in 2008 and winning Gold on Canadian soil was a great thrill, but we have new challenges ahead.  The first is trying to repeat as World Champions which no country has ever done and the second to do it on foreign soil. The players selected will more than step up to these challenges.”

“On behalf of the Canadian Ball Hockey Association, I would like to congratulate the players and staff named today, along with their provincial associations, leagues, club teams, families, coaches and officials who have helped them along the way,” said Domenic DiGironimo, CBHA President.
