The 2009 Women's Provincial Championships were hosted in Delta, BC at Sungod Arena this past weekend. The BC Hawks, Vancouver Vipers, Vancouver Sharks and Vancouver Rebels set forth in the quest to become the 2009 Provincial Champions. The teams were all very close in competition level, in fact the first 4 games of the tournament ended up in ties. Thus meaning that the last games of the round robin on Saturday evening would decide who would advance to the championship game Sunday afternoon. The first game saw the Sharks narrowly defeating the Vipers 2-1 while the Hawks were able to shutout the rebels 2-0 enabling both teams to advance to the championship game. These teams are no strangers to each other as they have batlled numerous times for a provincial championship. Both teams have a tremendous amount of respect for each other as they have been the top two teams in the BCBHA over these past many years. The BC Hawks were fortunate to come out on top this day with a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Sharks in an exciting game which went down to the wire.
