2015 BCBHA High School Championships - Recap

2015-06-02

Congratulations and thank you to all teams that participated in the High School Championships this past weekend.

What a great weekend we had for this event. It was great to see so many parents, teachers and competative student athletes out at North Surrey Recreation Centre for our largest High School Championships to date with 20 teams participating.

This year we saw some new schools in attendance such as Howe Sound from Squamish, BC, McRoberts from Richmond, Delview and Seaquam from Delta, BC and Westview and Thomas Haney from Maple Ridge, BC.

It bodes well for the future of this great event and the growth of High School ball hockey in the province and we look forward to next year.

Special thank you goes to our partners in this event:

City of Surrey for all of your assistance with the facililities.

McDonalds Canada for providing gift certificates for all of the participants.

The Hockey Shop for providing a discount to the players needing anything during the event.

Congratulations to the Enver Creek Cougars who went undefeated in the tournament to become the 2015 BC Ball Hockey Association High School Champions!

Enver Creek met up with a strong opponent in the Fleetwood Park Dragons who were also undefeated heading into the championship game. These teams did not disappoint in taking the game into overtime in front of the 300 fans in attendance cheering them on. Late in the first overtime period Enver Creek got a lucky bounce off a shot that went wide and bounced back into the Fleetwood Park's goaltenders foot and into the net to clinch the 2015 title.

Congratulations to the Silver Medallist Fleetwood Park Dragons for a great showing and sportsmanship throughout the tournament!

The Leading Scorer for the tournament was from the Seaquam Seahawks. Jacob Apostoliuk had 5 goals and 4 assists for 9 points in 3 round robin games. Congratulations Jacob!

The Most Valuable Player for the tournament was from the Enver Creek Cougars. Amrit Humpal played 2 games in the round robin and 2 games in the playoff rounds collecting four wins for his team in the tournament.
